Mr. Francisco Martelo Villar

Chairman of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Galicia since 2021. Holder of an undergraduate degree and a doctorate in Medicine from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Specialist in General Surgery and Plastic, Aesthetic and Reparative Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid. He completed his residency at what is today the Gregorio Marañón Hospital of Madrid. He worked as senior house officer (SHO) at St George’s Hospital in London. He was later a surgeon at the 12 de Octubre Hospital of Madrid and the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital of Murcia, and finally became the head of service of Plastic Surgery and Burn Patients and medical director at the A Coruña University Hospital (CHUAC). Chairman of the National Plastic Surgery Committee. Recipient of the Gold Medal of the Spanish Society of Plastic, Reparative and Aesthetic Surgery (SECPRE). Founder and first chairman of the Spanish Society for Burns. Author of numerous articles in national and international journals, and book chapters on medical topics.
